Developments in Discrimination Law
Dear Member
After the success of last month’s first co-hosted AIRM seminar with the III (Insurance Institute of Ireland) we are back to the more familiar territory of the Camden Court Hotel. We are developing our partnership with the III and over this year’s seminar season the venue will alternate so please be sure to always check the location of the seminar.
This month’s seminar is in two parts both of which relate to recent developments in discrimination law including:
1. Absence management in the workplace – how to balance effective management of sick leave with an employer’s obligations under equality law.
2. Can an employer insist on a compulsory retirement age – the impact of the change in the State pension age and developments in age discrimination case law?
The talk will be given by Maura Connolly. Maura is a solicitor with Eugene F. Collins, a partner in the Dispute Resolution Department and head of the Firm's Employment & Employee Benefits Group. She advises employers and employees on all aspects of the employment relationship including contentious and non-contentious matters. Maura is experienced in civil litigation. She has represented clients in employment tribunals and before industrial relations bodies.
Maura has a number of impressive achievements including being the former Chair of the Law Society's Employment and Equality Law Committee (2012 to 2015). She is also a member of the European Employment Lawyers Association, the Employment Law Association of Ireland, the Association of Pension Lawyers Ireland and the Health & Safety Lawyers Association of Ireland. She has published articles and commentary in the National media and has contributed articles to many publications relating to employment law. Maura also lectures to the Law Society's Diploma in Employment law.
As per our usual format the above topics will be taken in two parts with our coffee break between them.
The CPD status of this seminar is currently pending with the III and we will revert as soon as we have the final details.
Just a final reminder that this month’s conference is back at our usual location in the Camden Court Hotel.
Regards
